Suited for: pigmentation, sun damage, freckles, rosacea, redness

  • Broad-Spectrum Light: IPL uses broad-spectrum light pulses, which means it emits a range of wavelengths that can target multiple skin concerns simultaneously.

Multiple Filters: IPL devices have various filters that can be interchanged based on the skin concern being treated. These filters help to narrow down the wavelengths emitted, allowing for greater precision and customization for different skin types and conditions.

Pulse Duration and Fluence: Adjustable pulse durations and fluences (light energy levels). This customization allows skincare professionals to tailor the treatment to the individual's specific skin concern, ensuring optimal results and safety.

Contrary to lasers, which only deliver a single wave length of light, IPL machines produce a wide range of wavelengths. Each of this is a very small packet of light, however these little packages all add up to destroy the relevant target. IPL machines have the advantage of being able to treat a number of targets at the same time.

IPL is a relatively quick procedure to perform and is usually completed in a clinic environment and can be used to treat a number of different regions of the face and body. They are very versatile and can be used to improve the appearance of birthmarks such as port-wine stains in addition to broken blood vessels, flushed cheeks, freckles, age spots, sunspots, pigmentation and sun damage.

  • The patient wears safety glasses during the procedure although this is not quite as critical as it is with lasers.

The light is passed over the treatment area delivering precise pulses. IPL treatments are usually less painful than other facial rejuvenation techniques. The patient will be provided with ice to apply on the treated area after the procedure.

  • Expectations:

    • After your treatment, you may experience a mild sunburn feeling that can last for the remainder of the day.

    • Redness and swelling after the procedure is common and may last from 24-48 hours.

    • The swelling may vary anywhere from mild to severe, depending on the size of the area treated and the location.

    Downtime:

    • Applying ice packs intermittently for the first 24 hours after treatment will help to reduce these side effects; ideally, ice packs should be used on the hour, every hour, for fifteen minutes at a time.

    • The treated area is often swollen for several days following the procedure.

    • Some scabbing and even blistering may be seen, especially if brown spots are being treated.
