Do I need a referral for urgent appointments?

Medical consultations can be booked with or without a referral. However, to claim a Medicare rebate for initial general dermatology consultations, subsequent reviews, and specific treatments, a valid GP referral is required. This referral ensures transparent communication with your general practitioner concerning your medical history, medications, and allergies, enabling us to tailor your appointment precisely to your skin needs. It's important to note that cosmetic consultations do not required a referral.

Your trust in us is highly valued, and we are committed to delivering the highest standard of dermatological care, even in urgent situations.

Rapid Access Appointments

The Dermatology Institute of Victoria offers a cooperative emergency appointments for the quick treatment of non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancer.

How do I access the appointment?

Access to our emergency appointments are exclusively through doctor referrals only. Please make an appointment at your GP if you're concerned about any spots, moles, or skin lesions. Your GP will then refer you to our clinic for specialised care. Please note, this is not a general skin checking service.

What does the appointment involve?

Emergency appointments involve our dermatologists performing routine excisions of skin cancers, ensuring thorough and precise removal. For more complex cases, we provide on-site Mohs micrographic surgery which is considered the most effective technique for the removal of skin cancer with the highest reported success rate. The method aims to conserve as much normal skin as possible. This technique is specialised for the removal of severe melanomas or when aiming for the most aesthetically pleasing result in skin cancer treatment.

Mohs micrographic surgery is performed by Professor Greg Goodman. Our clinic offers optimal post-operative scar revision techniques under the expertise of Professor Goodman, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.
