Highly effective for improving skin texture and appearance. It is commonly used to reduce deep facial wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage and age spots, especially around delicate areas like the eyes and mouth. By targeting the outer layers of skin, the laser stimulates collagen production, helping to rejuvenate the skin, improve overall skin quality, and reduce signs of ageing. It provides a safe and effective solution for a more youthful complexion.

Erbium Laser for Medical Dermatology

A highly precise and effective treatment for various benign skin growths and lesions. It can safely remove conditions such as xanthelasma (cholesterol deposits around the eyes), syringomas (benign sweat gland tumors), seborrheic keratoses, actinic keratoses, milia, and other superficial growths. This treatment offers minimal downtime and delivers excellent cosmetic results, helping to prevent discomfort and reduce the risk of potential complications.

Erbium Laser for PPP- Pearly Penile Papules

Offered by Dr Michael Rich, ENRICH Dermatology

Pearly Penile Papules (PPP), medically known as hirsuties papillaris genitalis, are small, benign bumps that appear around the head of the male genitalia and often cause concern for those affected. Dr Michael Rich is a specialist dermatologist who offers effective treatment for PPP using the advanced Erbium Laser.

The Erbium Laser uses gentle energy to remove the papules one layer at a time, ensuring only the excess tissue is treated while leaving the healthy skin untouched. As the treatment continues, the PPPs are removed, and the skin starts healing naturally. The treated areas may form scabs, which will fall off in a few days, revealing smooth, clear skin underneath.

Key Features of Erbium Resurfacing Laser

How it works

Erbium laser involves using a handheld device across the treatment area to emit a 2940nm wavelength of light that is absorbed by water molecules in the skin. It targets the water in the skin and vaporises the tissues in a controlled manner on the skin's surface. This precisely targets and removes the outer layers of damaged skin, revealing new, refreshed skin cells below. The laser can be customised to different depths and intensities, ensuring a tailored treatment approach.

The procedure produces a burn that must heal. The area will be covered by either a dressing or greasy ointment to keep the site moist until healing is complete. Results are usually seen at 12 weeks with further improvement continuing over the following 12 months.

FAQs

  • • Wrinkles and fine lines (particularly around the eyes and mouth)

    • Sun damage and leathery skin

    • Acne scars, surgical scars, and scars from injuries

    • Age spots and pigmentation issues

    • Uneven skin texture

  • Skin Resurfacing: The Erbium laser is an ablative laser, meaning each time it is passed over an area, it removes a very fine layer of damaged skin. This continues until it reaches a level less affected by the problem, allowing new healthier skin to be revealed.

High Precision: Erbium lasers create a controlled burn that 'peels' back the skin to a level less affected by scarring or sun damage. High precision produces minimal thermal damage to the surrounding tissues and reduces the risk of scarring.

Stimulates Collagen Production: Promotes collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin. Helps improve skin elasticity, firmness, and overall texture, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

  • This is a painful procedure.

Protective eyewear is worn by the patient during the treatment.

The Erbium Laser device is then placed over the treatment area, emitting light that is absorbed by water as the light hits the skin. The procedure produces a burn and the patient will experience a burning and stinging sensation for 1-2 hours following the procedure.

Immediately afterwards, the burn is covered by a greasy ointment or dressing to keep the wound hydrated until it is healed. It is important that the area remain hydrated as this optimises wound healing.

  • Expectations:

    • It is normal for you to to experience a burning and stinging sensation for 1-2 hours following the procedure.

    • Occasionally, you may experience more pain or stinging in which case you may take paracetamol (Panadol) and/or Ibuprofen (Nurofen) to relieve the symptoms.

    • You will experience bleeding, oozing and weeping that may last up to 5-7 days post treatment. If you experience this, apply Vaseline and apply pressure.

    Downtime:

    • It generally takes up to two weeks for the initial healing to occur. During this time, the area will ooze and may be swollen.

    • When healed, the skin will look pink and may have some blotchy pigmentation, which gradually fades between 2-12 weeks.

    • Results are usually seen at 12 weeks but further improvement may continue over the following 12 months.
