Key Features of Erbium Resurfacing Laser

FAQs

  • • Wrinkles and fine lines (particularly around the eyes and mouth)

    • Sun damage and leathery skin

    • Acne scars, surgical scars, and scars from injuries

    • Age spots and pigmentation issues

    • Uneven skin texture

  • Skin Resurfacing: The Erbium laser is an ablative laser, meaning each time it is passed over an area, it removes a very fine layer of damaged skin. This continues until it reaches a level less affected by the problem, allowing new healthier skin to be revealed.

High Precision: Erbium lasers create a controlled burn that 'peels' back the skin to a level less affected by scarring or sun damage. High precision produces minimal thermal damage to the surrounding tissues and reduces the risk of scarring.

Stimulates Collagen Production: Promotes collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin. Helps improve skin elasticity, firmness, and overall texture, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

  • This is a painful procedure.

Protective eyewear is worn by the patient during the treatment.

The Erbium Laser device is then placed over the treatment area, emitting light that is absorbed by water as the light hits the skin. The procedure produces a burn and the patient will experience a burning and stinging sensation for 1-2 hours following the procedure.

Immediately afterwards, the burn is covered by a greasy ointment or dressing to keep the wound hydrated until it is healed. It is important that the area remain hydrated as this optimises wound healing.

  • Expectations:

    • It is normal for you to to experience a burning and stinging sensation for 1-2 hours following the procedure.

    • Occasionally, you may experience more pain or stinging in which case you may take paracetamol (Panadol) and/or Ibuprofen (Nurofen) to relieve the symptoms.

    • You will experience bleeding, oozing and weeping that may last up to 5-7 days post treatment. If you experience this, apply Vaseline and apply pressure.

    Downtime:

    • It generally takes up to two weeks for the initial healing to occur. During this time, the area will ooze and may be swollen.

    • When healed, the skin will look pink and may have some blotchy pigmentation, which gradually fades between 2-12 weeks.

    • Results are usually seen at 12 weeks but further improvement may continue over the following 12 months.
